A student at Southwest Community Campus, Schools of Hope and Summer Learning Academy, Britney Garcia has had the good fortune of coming from a family of achievers.
Her parents, Hector and Maricela, have lived in the West Zone for 30 years. They have worked long hours, often under the hot sun, to support their children. To position their kids for success, Hector and Maricela invested most of their spare time in their family. “The time that parents spend with their children affects their academic success or failure more than anything else,” says Hector.
With consistent parental support and encouragement, the oldest Garcia daughter completed medical school at the University of Michigan. With similar family reinforcement, their son is pursuing his degree at GVSU. The proud parents expect Britney to enroll in college as well.
As the parent of three successful students and role model for others, Hector contributes to the work of Believe 2 Become by attending community meetings and advocating for parent leadership.
